Public Safety: What the new EMS unit means for you

Ordinance 26-05, approved March 25, 2026 and effective May 1, 2026, folded Police, Fire, and EMS into one Department of Public Safety under Director Eamon Blanchard. The township is now the primary 911 medical responder — a change from the prior model, though the volunteer Plainsboro Rescue Squad continues to operate alongside it rather than being replaced.

In the department's own explainer video, Director Blanchard describes the consolidation as bringing "police and fire and rescue operations" under one administrative, operational, and fiscal umbrella. Watch it here.
